These are my sweet grandparents. They have loved each other for 62 years. Nurses all around the hospital were coming to look at the “Notebook” couple. That’s what they called them :) My grandmother suffered from paralysis along the entire right side of her body due to a moderate stroke over 10 years ago. My grand father has never left her side. He has taken care of her every single day and not complained once. And due to the stroke my grandmother lost her speech and had to rely on eye contact and hand motions with her one good hand. For 10+ years her and my grandfather have spoken with eye contact. I’ve never seen a woman showered with so many hugs & kisses from their sweet heart. And I dont think I’ve ever seen them not holding hands. Last week when my grandmother was hospitalized he wasn’t able to follow in the ambulance. He is very very weak and the paramedics couldn’t allow him to come because he could not walk on his own. Well about an hour later we get a call saying that now my grand father has been taken to the ER for a fall in his home. We think he just couldn’t stand being away from his Love, Jessie, and had to find away to get the paramedics to take him to the ER. He’s a mess isn’t he? But he loves her. More than anything. So much so that he will fall on purpose just so he can be rushed to the hospital and to her bedside. They are an inspiration to me and what I want in a marriage. They are the true definition of “head over heels ,the butterflies or sparks never go away, unconditional love”.
For those of you who do not know, with in the last 2 weeks my grandma has had multiple seizures, a slight heart attack and a significant stroke that has left her unresponsive and hanging on by a thread with medical help and life support. This week my grandma Jessie will be taken off oxygen and life support. And she will finally rise up and meet with our wonderful Lord and Savior.
I did not expect to help plan the funeral of this sweet woman the weekend of my birthday, but I guess I just have to take the hand that life has dealt to me. After all you can’t choose your hand in poker. Words can not express how much I will miss her and her laughter. Or the love and kindness that she has given me and to all who she has come in touch with.
My Aunt asked the hardest thing of me this evening… She asked if I would sing at the funeral. I am beyond honored and of course I will do it, but I don’t know how I’m going to be able to get through an entire song with out stopping.
Please pray for my family and for my grandfather as he is about to lose his adoring sweetheart and love of his life. Along with this news, he has stage 4 lung cancer and is in very poor condition. Our family believes he is only hanging on so someone would be here for grandma Jessie. But, we’re almost positive that once his Love goes, so will he, not long after. They are both 77 and 78 years old.  Please pray for comfort and peace to our family and to my grandmother as she passes into this next chapter of her life. This wonderful mother, wife, sister, friend and grandmother will truly be missed. But I can’t help but rejoice in the fact that she will no longer have pain or tears.. and she will finally  be with our Heavenly and Beautiful Maker.
